Sunday at the Museum Lecture - "Forgotten Music of Georgia"

Sunday at the Museum lecture series

“Forgotten Music of Georgia & Beyond”

Guest Speaker: Richard Garrett

Before streaming, CDs, tapes, and vinyl records there were 78s- the first mass medium for recorded music, spanning the late 19th century through the early 1950s. Eatonton resident and world music collector, Richard Garrett, will discuss and play five fascinating 78 rpm records from his collection, illuminating the music, the performers, and their times. Three of the tracks were recorded in Georgia, featuring African American gospel, old-time mountain string band music, and Eatonton's own pioneering bluesman Peg Leg Howell. The other two tracks head further south, to Mexico and the island of Trinidad.
