Bill Kurtz III is the grandson of Wilbur Kurtz Sr. (1882- 1967), a nationally renowned Georgia artist and historian. Born in Illinois, Kurtz Sr. moved to Atlanta in 1912 and quickly became a premier authority on Old South Atlanta. Margaret Mitchell personally selected Kurtz as technical advisor and artistic director on the film set of Gone with the Wind in 1939. His historical knowledge led Hollywood to recruit him also for Song of the South (1946), and The Great Locomotive Chase (1956).
Admission is free but donations are appreciated. The lecture begins at 2:00 and usually lasts about 45 minutes. In observance of CDC guidelines, there will be no refreshments after the lecture. Guests, however, are welcome to tour the museum, enjoy the exhibits, and speak with our docents afterward.
