If you attended last year’s OSHM lecture with Jason Hasty speaking on the UGA Sports collection in the University’s Hargrett Library, you already know that the library houses a treasure trove of priceless sports memorabilia! However, you may not know that the library also has history collections from every city in Georgia, including Eatonton!
This summer, the Hargrett’s traveling exhibit will visit 7 libraries around the state for the sports exhibit. Only one city, Eatonton, will have a display at both the local library and a history museum!! The Old School History Museum is proud to say that we are that museum!
Details:
On Friday, June 9th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Old School History Museum will have the pleasure of hosting the Hargrett exhibit! The Archivists will bring about 50 artifacts from Eatonton’s history for a one-day display in the museum. Just a few of the highlights are memorabilia from and about the following:
The Adele Theater (1914 -1922)
1826 daybook from the T. B. Reese Company
John Robinson Tavern
Post Cards and other correspondence
Medora Field Perkerson, journalist and author of White Columns in Georgia (Eatonton’s Sylvia the Ghost was featured)
...and so much more!
When Blackwell’s Furniture Store closes in a few weeks, we will no longer have the Adele Theater to visit. This UGA exhibit may be our last time to step back in time for the early movies in Eatonton!
Next door at the Eatonton Library, UGA will also showcase a sports collection! If you love sports and Eatonton history, you do not want to miss this event. Join us and see artifacts you have never seen before and may never see again!
You don’t want to miss this special event! Admission is free, and the public is invited!
